For positive x and y if x/y is n% of y, then what percent must x be of y?
A. (y × n)% B. (n/y)% C. (√n)% D. (n²)% E. (100 – n)%
(A) The statement x/y is n% of y means that: x/y = (n / 100) × y x = y × (y × n / 100) Therefore x is (y × n)% of y. The right answer is choice (A). ---------- Sometimes I get confused with the mathematical sentences and I do not know what they are asking exactly. Is there are way I can understand what they are asking for? Any rule or nemotehcnique rule which makes this easier for me?
The best way to fully understand what a question is asking for, is to read that question over, paying attention to EACH WORD. Along the way you should be asking yourself "what does this word stand for? Why is it used here?". And of course, you should be acquainted with the topic of a question.
For example, let's take a look at the statement of this question: "For any positive x and y if x/y is n% of y, then what percent must x be of y?"
positive x and y - means that x and y are unconditioned, but positive real numbers x/y is n% of y - means that x/y = (n / 100) × y THE MAIN QUESTION: what percent - means to find the number ___%. percent ... x be of y - means x × (___% / 100%) = y.
