Because they tell you in the original statement that the average weight of a pumpkin is 12 pounds, you know that, since x pumpkins are 10 lbs each, it's y pumpkins that are heavier. Therefore, y = x + 5, because there are 5 heavier pumpkins than lighter ones. Still, however, that doesn't give you enough information, because we do not know the relationship between y and r. Statement (2) gives us that, by telling us that y = r. Now you can solve for r
